What Is Recalibration?

Recalibration is the process of resetting or fine-tuning a vehicle sensor system after its position or view changes. In auto glass work, recalibration often checks an ADAS camera mounted near the windshield. The process helps the camera read lane lines, vehicles, and road signs as the vehicle maker intended.

How Recalibration Works

Recalibration checks whether an ADAS camera still points at the correct area of the road. The camera may sit behind the windshield near the rearview mirror. A technician checks the vehicle setup and follows the maker's calibration method.

Some vehicles use a stationary target in a controlled space. Others use a road test so the system can read clear lane markings and other features. The vehicle's computer records the result and may show a completed calibration message. A scan tool can also show system faults that need attention.

Windshield replacement can change the camera's view if the glass, mounting area, or camera position differs from the original setup. Recalibration belongs to ADAS Calibration because the goal is accurate operation of driver assistance features.

From the WindshieldRepairBellevuewa.com team

When we handle ADAS Calibration after windshield work, we check the camera area and vehicle information before choosing the calibration method. We also review system messages or scan results after the process. Clear glass, correct mounting, and proper camera placement help the check produce useful results.

Recalibration in Practice: A Real-World Example

A vehicle needs a windshield replacement after a crack spreads across the driver's view. The ADAS camera behind the glass is checked, and recalibration confirms that its view remains properly aimed for the vehicle's assistance systems.
